Summer’s End Agenda

Hey friends! Has your week gotten off to a good start? The last week of summer vacay….seriously ever year it gets me. How on earth is it possible for 2 months to feel this short? On the other hand, when I look at the last 8 weeks, it’s been enough time to get into some good routine with our summer weather actually being so sunny. I’m loving going for long walks most every evening…it’s such a great way to soak in the warmth, have some solitude (or conversely, a social sesh when I go with my sis!) and just appreciate the lack of an evening schedule.

My post today was going to be a food one…I had it all ready to go and then I happened to see someone post today about a end of summer checklist…and it got me thinking. What would be on my list? What am I still hoping to squeeze in? You might remember that I did a summer bucket list and I’d say I got maybe halfway done..not bad not bad. Bummed that I didn’t do the Joffrey Lake or Mt Cheam hike…but…I’ll just roll that over to next year’s list.

When I started thinking, my end of summer checklist came super easy. Not a “to-do” list, but rather almost a transition plan for moving into fall. To ease the end of summer blues and be ready to move forward feeling refreshed.

Here’s what it looks like for me:

~ Get a pedicure. Ok..umm..I don’t want to talk too much about feet because they tend to gross me out. But along that vein, now is the time to extend a little TLC to the tootsies. They’ve been without shoes, dug into sand, been left without any support in those flip-flops and generally trashed. I plan to bring em back to life…SOON.

~ Book a facial. Before you start thinking that I’m just vain, I rarely get facials but I’ll never forget being told that if you’re not into spending a bunch of money on skin treatments, at the very least, get a facial 4 times a year: at the change of each season. It’s a great way to clean your skin (especially after summer) and try to mitigate some of the damage from the sun’s exposure, the dryness, etc. It also preps your skin for the coming change in weather. My absolute fave facial is right here.

~ Spend an hour going through my closet. Whatever warm weather clothes I haven’t worn this summer should be on the chopping block. It doesn’t have to take hours…my plan is to be real with myself and refuse to keep holding onto clothes that I’m not wearing.

~Have a one on one date with each of my kids. I want the chance to spend a bit of time with each of the kids before we get back into the school/extracurricular gong show.  Nothing crazy but a shared treat and the chance to let em know I love em! (ps..this was on my summer bucket list too. Must happen!)

~ Spend an afternoon reading a good book..in the sun! This weather isn’t gonna last forever. And I plan on making the most of it.

~ Play a game of outdoor volleyball. The net is set up from now until Labor Day. The weather’s holding strong…no excuses.

~ Find a good devotional. I’ve actually checked this one off the list. It’s been so long since I’ve made it a habit. I just think reading some inspiration/encouragement first thing in the morning might be a really great way to start each day.

What’s on your list? If you haven’t thought about it, you still have time. It doesn’t have to be anything big! Or do you already have some summer to fall routines in place that you do? I’d love to hear!

Have a GREAT last week of summer vacay…. thanks so much for reading (it really does make my day!!) xo Laurel
