A Month of Moms: Tea

This is a super exciting day for Pam and I…the planning for a new series honouring moms started months ago. It all began with a conversation about Mother’s Day. How for many moms the day is special and joyful…but for some moms it might just be a day that is hard and filled with mixed emotions.  This conversation went a step farther and we wanted to figure out a way to use our blog to talk openly with moms who have endured some huge challenges…moms who have experienced some atypical mom “stuff”.

What Pam and I found was that we didn’t need to look far (AT ALL) to be able to find some truly remarkable and brave moms with moving stories. Moms who have lost children, moms who have special needs children, moms who have adopted from near and far, moms who took on the role at a very young age, moms who growing up didn’t have a dad involved in their life and were raised by a single mom, moms of multiples.  We wanted to celebrate and honour MOMS…it is a huge role to fill and often, under the very best of circumstances, there are feelings of inadequacy, worry  and being overwhelmed. Let alone the extra layers that each of our personal life stories add to the mix.

Hence, a Month of Moms. Pam and I are so honoured to be able to share 7 ladies with you over the next month. They have been willing to talk about their struggles (and the joys too!). We desire to really build a community where we can encourage and support each other. And I think this can happen when we start to be real. When we can hear from those who are ahead of us in the mothering process, from those who have different experiences/perspectives and from those who are willing to share not just the triumphs but also the tough sh%^$ that sometimes rocks a family.

To kick this series off, it felt fitting to host these moms for tea and make them feel special (I hope we succeeded in this!). Pam and I approached some of our favourite local businesses and asked if they might be able to help us pull it all together and WOW, our hopes were exceeded hugely. Friends, we have some amazing artisans/business owners right here in our backyard. Did I mention that many of our sponsors are also themselves amazing moms that have their own stories? They all jumped on board so generously that we felt a sense of confirmation that we might just be doing something that had some worth to it. We thank our sponsors from every inch of our hearts. Thank you for helping us honour these moms. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Hope you enjoy these pics…it was so hard to whittle it down to just these ones. Pam and I look forward to introducing you to some pretty special women who have made an impact on us. What a joy to host them xo
