ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

You’d have to be pretty far removed from any sort of social media to not have seen or heard about the the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge flood.  Everyone from Bill Gates to Biz Nasty are cooling their minds with icy water. All to bring awareness to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the lethal neurodegenerative disorder also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

After getting nominated, it was my turn to join in the cause, as well as the fun. So here’s my take in Sugar Plum Sister tulle…. ummm not. Ok, it’s part of a dare that my kids set forth to wear one of their old dance costumes for the challenge. Not surprising that i chose tulle over the acro spandex???

Let’s not get too caught up with the challenge of getting wet…though i have to admit it was cold and quite shocking. The original rule said you needed to get wet OR donate. But, i love how the rules have been bent…in the right direction. I have been inspired by the tons of people that are doing both! The whole point is to donate, right? So here’s my pledge to you… for every comment on the blog and every like on instagram and Facebook, i’ll donate $1.00*

Thats’s right… consider yourself challenged!

With every good thing comes some negative…talk about the money spent on ice and so forth. BUT….catch this:  The ALS Association has since said that it has raised $15.6 million as a result of the challenge, nine times what it normally raises in the same time frame. Another ALS charity, Project ALS, told the Washington Post that its donations were 50 times normal. ALS TDI, another ALS charity, says that has raised $580,000 since the beginning of August, 10 times what it normally receives.  THIS IS AWESOME! Let’s do this!

**donation made up to $500.
