We’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from our Friday Find, but today it’s back! I’ve never been into vintage clothes…it’s just not my gig. Every time I come out of a thrift store my scalp starts to itch….yes, I know it’s in my head! But before our trip to Paris, I was on the hunt for some black leather capris. Garance Dore wore a pair last January at the Alt Summit and as she was speaking I leaned over to Laurel and said that I had to get me a pair. I loved her simple, yet edgy style. And those capris…tres chic.
I started to look online and just wasn’t prepared to pay $200-$300 for something that was a bit outside of the box for me. So, off to the MCC Thrift Store I went, and seriously….I couldn’t believe it. Literally waiting for me was a pair of black, buttery leather Babaton pants….yup from Aritzia. I tried them on and they were a fit! What was even better is they were on “clearance”, ringing in at 50 cents. I’m not kidding!! It’s like they were meant to be mine!
I took them to my tailor to be shortened and narrowed a bit, so the total cost was $25.50….a lot better than $300!
I was also fortunate to take my mom’s fur coat on our trip to Paris. She received it as a gift from my dad over 30 years ago…I think that classifies it as vintage! It’s amazing how investment pieces can stand the test of time. I remember thinking how glamorous she looked when she wore it. It is still totally on point today….I put it over a silk blouse and full skirt with booties. It would also look great with a pair of skinny jeans, a silk blouse and pumps…so fancy!

For me, vintage pieces are really about having a specific idea in mind and then finding a way to make it happen. I don’t know that I will be a regular at the local thrift stores, but you may see me there once in a while when I’m on a mission!
