Neons!

Posted by Pam

One of the biggest trends this spring is neon! So I need to publicly apologize to my friend Andrea. She started wearing a neon pink J. Crew tank last summer and I told her that I wasn’t going to do neon again! I did it in the 90′s and I wasn’t going to repeat the trend! Well, she was ahead of the curve and I need to learn to never say never! Geesh! I was wrong and I’ve been sporting my fair share of neon this spring and I’m loving it! It is important to note that unlike in the early 90′s, do NOT wear neon head to toe. One or two hits of it in an outfit will do the trick!

Here are some of my fave neon picks…remember…only one or two pieces at a time, such as a scarf and shoes, or a t-shirt and a bracelet.   Keep other pieces in your outfit neutral…denim works very well with neon.  A little goes a long way!

Neons

J.Crew Shorts  in Neon Peach $56.00

Gap Striped T in Blue $24.95

Joe Fresh Striped Scarf  in White, Yellow and Black $16

Gap Foldover Pencil Skirt in Powerful Blue $39.95

Gap Neon-Stripe Infinity Scarf  in Tree Frog $24.95

Gap 1969 Legging Skimmer Jeans in Lime Cooler $49.99

Gap Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis in Luminous Orange $59.95

Gap Leather Stripe Tote $79.95

Kate Spade Locked In Mini Turnlock Bangle $58

J.Crew Neon Stone Necklace $95.00

Sperry Top-Sider Audrey Boat in Neon, Nude and White $85

J.Crew Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original Boat Shoes in Neon Rose $98

J.Crew Vintage Cotton Tank in Neon Azalea $28.50

Gap Patent Perforated Flats in Neon Yellow $39.95

You only need one more thing to really carry out the neon trend…the perfect neon polish….oh, and do I have a fave!

Boom Boom Room

Essie’s Boom Boom Room is the perfect cotton candy pink.  I apply it without using a white underneath…I don’t find it necessary!  It’s a fresh and fun color that looks fantastic with a bit of a tan!

So for me, it’s a lesson learned!  Trends come back and, yes, sometimes they are worth repeating….but never literally…things always come back with a twist!

Friday Find ~ Perfume Atomizer

Posted by Pam

FLO

This week’s Friday Find is a perfect last minute Mother’s Day gift!  And it’s perfect for travel too!!  A friend bought me the FLO Refillable Fragrance Atomizer for travelling and I have to admit, it probably took me 6 months to use it because I just didn’t get what it really was and thought it might be confusing to use.  Geesh!!!   I have to say this contraption is seriously genius!!!  It’s SO easy to use… you fill it by opening the one end and spraying in your fave perfume.  That’s it! No more travelling with sample size freebee fragrances I don’t even like!  I have my fave scent packed now at all times.

Sephora also has their own model of atomizer (click here).  They suggest that not only can you use it for perfume, but also for toner, breath spray or even just water!  Brilliant!

Friday Find ~ Lip Glow

Posted by Laurel

Those who know me, know that i go a little freaky if i don’t have lip balm/chapstick within arms length at all times. Always have and always will. This, my sisters, is my new favourite! A friend treated me to a tube of Dior’s Addict Lip Glow and wow, at the risk of sounding cheesy? This BALM is the BOMB!! hah!

What makes it so fabulous? Where to begin… i love that it has the function of a lip balm, without leaving your lips colorless or at best, a slight pasty white. Lip Glow incorporates technology (technology in a lip product? What is our world coming to?!?) that allows it to react with the chemistry of your lips to create a shade specific to you. Pretty cool, hey? If you struggle to find a lip color, this is your answer. I love the light hued glossy look it gives, while moisturizing your pucker at the same time. Lip Glow also has SPF10 in it..as we head into sunny season, it’s not just your skin that needs protection..don’t forget about your lips! And lastly, well, i just think it might be the prettiest lip balm packaging i ever did see!

And while the price ($35) may initially seems steep, don’t forget: It’s really like 2 products in one…Lipstick and a moisturizinging lip balm. You can also ditch the mirror you’ve been carrying around in your purse. Apply this on the fly..no precision needed..yay!

My new go-to..i want to buy another one just to have as backup!

Dior’s Addict Lip Balm is available at Sephora, or department store Christian Dior beauty counters  (Vancouverites, check it out at the Bay)

Friday Find ~ Spray on Moisturizer!

Posted by Pam

vaseline spray and go

Laurel mentioned a few weeks ago how dry her skin was in Phoenix. I have to report that it hasn’t improved much for me since we’ve been home.  I try to moisturize after I shower, but sometimes if I’m in a rush I can’t take the time to slather on lotion and wait for it to absorb before I get dressed.  I also can’t stand the feeling of trying to slither greasy feeling legs into leggings….eek!

I happened upon this product the other day and thought I’d give it a go!  Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer in “Cocoa Radiant”.  So, I’ve tried it the last four mornings and I have this to report…

  1. It absorbs super fast.
  2. It doesn’t leave a greasy feeling.
  3. You can get dressed immediately.
  4. I love the light scent that reminds me of chocolate…yum!
  5. It is very moisturizing!

Just watch the over spray as you don’t want to end up with a slick bathroom floor!

So, I give Vaseline Spray & Go an enthusiastic “plums up”!  And an added bonus….this beauty only costs $5.77!

Essie’s Neon 2013 Collection

Posted by Pam

Essie neons 2013

Colors clockwise from top left…Shake Your $$ Maker (green), Boom Boom Room (pink), Bottle Service (fuchsia), DJ Play that Song (plum), Bouncer, it’s Me! (blue), Saturday Disco Fever (coral)

This last weekend, we got, hopefully, the last taste of winter weather….yes, there was a skiff of snow in some parts of the Lower Mainland. I had to break my rule of no boots after Spring Break….that’s a big dislike!

So, in protest, I painted my nails with some of Essie’s Neon 2013 Collection! You can’t help but feel happy and warm with these amazingly electric shades!

How to get the most pop out of these colors?? Follow these 4 steps…

  1. Apply a base coat to clean, dry nails
  2. Add one coat of Essie’s “Blanc”
  3. Swipe on two coats of your fave Essie neon shade
  4. Finish with one coat of Essie’s “Good to Go” top coat!

I have used these shades with and without the coat of  ”Blanc”.  Without you need about three coats of polish and it gives you a slightly subtler look, which is a nice option!  With the first coat of “Blanc”, you really get a bright neon pop!

We love all the bright colors in this collection but what are our “Plum Picks”????  We adore  ”Boom Boom Room”.  The first day I wore it I got no less than 4 compliments!  It’s a cotton candy pink, super happy shade, but somehow not over the top. We also love “DJ Play that Song”…neon plum…how could we not love it?…an easy shade to wear that works (and doesn’t clash) with many of this season’s neon pieces.  And “Saturday Disco Fever”….coral….nothing says summer’s a-coming like a coral pedi!

The Essie Neon 2013 Collection will be available in stores May 1, 2013.  Click here for Essie Retailers.

Thank-you SO much to Essie for sending us their Neon 2013 Collection.  We are loving the bright, fun shades and know that our readers will too!!  They are the perfect pop of neon for this season!
